 History:
 Founded in 1905, the club plays its home matches at  the Stade l'Abb�-Deschamps in Auxerre, situated on the banks of the Yonne in Burgundy.  The club has achieved both European and domestic success, an unusual feat for a club from a town with a population under 40,000.  Guy Roux, the club's longtime manager was principally responsible for the club's rise to prominence, having helped Auxerre rise through every division of French football, beginning with his appointment in 1961.  Roux retired at the end of the 2004-2005 season.  Under Roux, Auxerre first  achieved promotion to Ligue 1 in 1980, and won the French championship, its in 1996.
 
 Jacques Santini replaced Roux as the club's current manager, but has since been replaced by Jean Fernandez.
